About Us - Our Team

Neil Sadaranganey

Managing Director

Neil leads the team responsible for all investments for Docomo Capital. Neil focuses on stage agnostic investments in mobile and e-commerce. Neil led the investments in Cenrify, Muzy, Fab, Nextbit and Anfacto. His current investments also include Couchbase.

Prior to Docomo, Neil spent 6 years building Bay Partners Software as a Service and digital media practices. As a General Partner he led the firms early investments in Eloqua which was acquired by Oracle after going public in 2012 and Cornerstone onDemand another IPO. Cornerstone (CSOD) is the leader and most valuable company in the talent management space and continues to grow revenue by at least 50% year of year as it has since the venture investment in 2007. Neil served on the board of Cornerstone onDemand, Like.com (acquired by Google), Eventful, LiveMedia and Hiplogic.

Before venture capital, Neil spent 10 years as a product executive in technology company of all sizes. Neil was part of the founding team of Afara Websystems which was acquired by Sun Microsystems. Afara's technology is the foundation of a multi-billion server product line at Oracle. Neil led product teams at Good Technology, RealNetworks and Sun Microsystems where he launched several new products. He began his career as a consultant with Accenture and IBM.

Neil has a BS in systems engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from Stanford University.

Neil grew up in Toronto Canada where he shunned the CFL and became a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Byron Haigh

Principal

Byron has more than 20 years experience in the Telecommunications and startups space, with consulting experience in the biggest Telcos across the globe and entrepreneurial experience in leading European and US startups. His strength is coordinating startups with corporations in international environments. His focus is consumer Internet, ecommerce as well as converged communications. He brings a quantitative approach as well as qualitative strategic assessment to startups, which is based on his analytic and humanist educational background.

Byron sourced Docomo Capital’s investment in Muzy and 500 Startups.

Previously Byron was a founder and partner with Maroon Analytics, a strategic consultancy firm created by six University of Chicago MBAs, with HQ in Singapore, and offices in Barcelona and Chicago. His area of expertise has been the telecommunication industry, and specifically, it's content strategy. He has worked with Telefonica, Vodafone, and Orange in Europe, and Claro, Vivo, TIM, and Telcel in LATAM. Byron has assisted Telefonica in the development of their corporate venture arm in Silicon Valley. He also sourced some of their first investments and completed the due diligence of Quantenna, Kyte, and Eventful. Byron has also helped other International Telcos expand their business development activities in Silicon Valley. He established partnerships with the following startups: Hiplogic (mobile storefront), Telenav (LBS), Twilio (voice API and VOIP), Zong (mobile payments), Playerx (games), Groovemobile(music).

Previously, Byron has had 10 years experience working as European sales manager in several internet startups, including Iconmedialab, Aspiro, Airborne Entertainment and Jadestone. Byron offers 20 years of experience focusing on consumer internet and mobile innovation in three continents: Americas, Europe, and East Asia. Byron holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MA from Columbia University in New York, and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in New York

Jay Onda

Principal

Jay specializes on being in the innovation forefront in product development and new technologies focusing on areas such as the Internet of Things including wearable devices, consumer focused M2M and O2O platforms, and consumer focused services. He also works closely with early stage startups as a mentor and advisor.

Jay has worked with various divisions of NTT Docomo HQ in Japan and within Docomo Innovations (previously Docomo Research Labs). He has helped position Docomo Innovations as NTT Docomo HQ’s strategic and innovations arm in the United States–providing insights into innovative technologies, formulating strategic partnership opportunities and developing creative solutions and products for Docomo’s customers.

Prior to working in the Telecommunications industry, Jay has worked as a Product Manager and User Interface Engineer for startup companies in the Silicon Valley providing innovative ideas and concepts to create problem-solving solutions in various industries. The products he has developed includes pre-installed applications from select OEM vendors, web application interfaces utilized by top Fortune 100 companies, and conceptual designs demonstrating future product innovation offerings which has been displayed at CEATEC, CES, and MWC. He has also worked as a Designer working with top industry brands such as Nike, Sony, Logitech, HP and others.

Jay holds a BS in Business, Marketing from San Jose State University in California and currently lives in San Francisco.

Daniel Haigh

Analyst

Daniel has been engaged with Docomo Capital for over 2 years after having spent 3 years with Maroon Analytics.

Daniel holds a BA in Economics from Colorado College (Colorado Springs), a MSIE (International Economics) from Suffolk University (Boston) and a BA in Philosophy and Theology from San Damaso University (Madrid) Daniel grew up in Spain and currently resides in Madrid frequently travelling to the U.S., South America, and the EU.
